“Forgiveness is unlocking the door to set someone free and realizing you were the prisoner!” — Max Lucado
I did not think I would be writing today I wanted instead to read some others on Medium and get to know more folks here. But I truly enjoyed the write by @Bhaskarthakur The main element was forgiveness. His writing provoked so many convictions and thoughts in my mind and heart that I just had to say a little something about it. Forgiveness is the cornerstone of human life. Yet so little is experienced or utilized and is so often misunderstood as a sign of weakness.
The greatest and first love- true love was expressed through the very act of forgiveness. Though it took place before the foundations of the earth it was lived out and expressed in a way for all to understand. That action took place on a hill called Calvary about 2000 years ago just outside the walls of the city of Jerusalem.
I chose the quote above from Max Lucado because it is exactly what expresses the identification God has with us. God is Love. God is also Just. But He was suffering after Adam and Eve’s 1st sin. He loved His creation but could not fellowship with sin. A payment had to be made that would redeem and restore. Forgiveness is free for us to receive but it cost God everything!
In forgiving us God was set free to love us unconditionally. When He looks at me in my failures, He sees the Blood of His Son Jesus, because I have freely received This most precious gift. Is there Hell? Yes. But it was not created for us. Will people go there? Yes. But not one soul will go there because of their sin. Any soul in Hell is there because they refused the incredible payment for their sin. They refused to agree with God.
In conclusion, I would like to say that when we forgive someone for an injury to us in whatever capacity We free ourselves from being in bondage to what they had done. Don’t be fooled into thinking “They don’t deserve my forgiveness”. No one deserves it. What they do with it is up to them. But if you choose to forgive You set yourself free from that forever.
Healing begins to take place and capacity is built as you find restoring Love supporting your decision. Just as Love is a decision so is forgiveness. What will you choose?
