Preparations Of The Heart

Every day we are, preparing for something, but the common preparations we make aren’t counted, like getting up in the morning. Already mentally, we are preparing for the next thing — such as taking what we need out of the fridge to prepare breakfast. Going over a list in our head of what we are doing that day- we plan and prepare our time for such details. A lot of our preparations are on autopilot. Simply bringing in my groceries, I am already prepared to carry so many bags in one hand while my other hand will handle the keys, etc. All these are prepared instincts. But I’d like to say something else. I’d like, to talk about purposed preparations. We also do a lot of that. For example- diet, study for a test, How we might approach a conversation, etc. But I want to get to the “heart” of the matter. That is preparing our hearts. This preparation is so often not done and, yet, it remains as essential as breathing for our lives.

As Christians, have we prepared our hearts today to face any challenge that comes our way? Have we started our day with a “heart-to-heart” with Jesus? Have we put on the whole armor spoken about in Ephesians 6? The other day, I spent a very frustrating day at a health clinic to make sure, I didn’t break anything when I fell, the day before. Truth, be told, it was an awful visit. I had to wait in pain much too long and the doctor I had was hard and did not listen. I won’t go into each detail there. After 3.5 hours, I left to pick up my scripts at the pharmacy, near my home. They did not receive the fax. Another 2 hours were spent in aggravation and frustration, until, I was told to go back to the doctor and get a paper script. As I drove back to the clinic, I realized I was in a frustrated and foul mood. It was then I finally turned to Jesus. I prayed and received forgiveness for my attitude and while my mood turned around, I became joyful, because my thoughts were now being processed through God’s love for me. I did not make time that morning for my quiet time with God. I had missed preparing my heart for the day. I was not prepared, for, the details of life that so often assail us. Because of Grace, I had a beautiful turnaround on that day. But what I could perhaps have avoided Had I only taken the time to prepare my heart.

It will not prevent certain events from taking place, but a prepared heart will calm your soul and encourage your spirit. Here are a couple of verses to think about when preparing, your own heart. Philippians 4:8, Isaiah Every day we are, preparing for something, but the common preparations we make are not counted. Like, when we are getting up in the morning.
