Song Origins
Early in 1986, having been married about twelve and a half years, I now found myself facing a crumbling relationship with two children, 10 and 12. It was 2:00 a.m. and with tears streaming down my cheeks as I drove down a darkened and lonely road home, I cried out my doubts to God; that though I knew Him to be faithful – I was afraid I would not trust Him. It was there on that road that night, He answered me by way of this song. It was in this song I knew I could go on and that I would trust Him. I hope it will bless you in your time of need.
As a young believer I was wonderfully overwhelmed at the reality of Christ being all I could ever need and, that He Himself chose me to be in the Bride. What an amazement in my young mind that He loved me and called me to be His. He is my everything! When I wrote this song, it was with great joy! I was thinking about his promise of eternal life and His preparations for our heavenly home. Here on earth, I call Him Father, brother, and savior; and yet He is so much more. He is the Bridegroom. He is everything!
I am a Christmas girl at heart. I love all the decorations and lights and festivities. The visiting, writing cards, cookie making and shopping to find that special gift for someone. But this song was born out of my heart as I was shopping and just gazed at the many souls going to and fro in their frantic plan to get things done and realized so many just didn’t know what Christmas was truly all about. In my heart these words and melody poured forth wanting to wrap up its meaning in a gift and give it to all. “O Christmas Time” is a song to carry all the year through.
